While all the pre-tournament talk was about the fescue and tough bunkers, it didn’t prove to be an issue, with the most sub-par scores in the first round of a U.S. Open with 44. Rickie Fowler (-7) joined Jack Nicklaus and Tom Weiskopf with the lowest 18-hole score (in relation to par) in U.S. Open history along with this stat;
