Tragedy at Silverado

In the following hours after Brendan Steele retained his title at Silverado, the PGA Tour’s Safeway Open complex for the event was destroyed in what has been described as one of the worst wildfires in the State’s history.

Authorities stated that 14 fires had swept across an area of 57,000 acres, with Silverado Resort evacuating staff and guests as the fires blazed on.  The towns of Sonoma, Yuba and Napa north of San Francisco have reportedly been the hardest hit and were declared a state of emergency. Photographs have emerged of the Safeway Open grandstands that were caught in the blaze with fires spreading towards the course.

The death toll has risen to 10 people with more than 1,500 homes being destroyed in the blaze. Simply devastating.
