Only 6 months after the release of the Ping G400 range, Ping have now extended their range with the new G400 Max driver. The Max features a high MOI due to its deeper profile and 460cc head. Claiming to be more forgiving and easy to hit, this driver is aimed at the higher-end handicappers but is of course suitable for anyone looking for extra distance and accuracy off the tee.
The face design has been changed and a high-density tungsten back weight wrapped around the rear portion of the sole increases forgiveness. The extremely thin face offers increased ball speed and distance. The new Max driver also features a thinner crown and includes Ping’s already established Dragonfly Technology that has already brought many professional and amateur players success off the tee. The domed crown combines with bolder turbulators to reduce drag and generate significant clubhead speed and ball velocity for ensuring distance with stability. The hosel allows adjustments of positive or negative 1 degree. The head comes in lofts of 9 degrees and 10.5. The stock shaft is the Ping Alta CB.
The new driver certainly looks good but it will be interesting to see if it makes a big impact given Ping’s success already with the standard G400 range. Will you be getting one?
