The Ocean Course at Kiawah Island is something truly special, having hosted the 2007 Senior PGA and the 2012 PGA Championships, this is certainly a course that would make any golf fan’s bucket list. Built in 1991 by Pete Dye, the main opponent you will be versing on the course other than yourself is the harsh winds at play. A player can experience up to an 8-club difference on holes depending on the strength and direction of the winds; knowing that the wind was so strong here and unavoidable, Dye designed the course with this battle against it in mind, making it a serious challenge for all players.
Located on the eastern-most end of Kiawah Island, The Ocean Course has more seaside holes than any other course in the Northern Hemisphere. The Ocean Course gained instant notoriety as the host of the dramatic “War by the Shore,” where Bernard Langer missed a six-footer to tie the match and for Europe to retain and win the 1991 Ryder Cup. With 18 holes featuring panoramic views of the Atlantic Ocean, the scenery is incredible, making this course a must for any avid traveler and golfer.
